Street healing ministry found the perfect opportunity during the Winnipeg Whiteout — thousands of people on the streets, many open to conversation and prayer. These reports capture how street healing ministry teams used the Whiteout atmosphere to draw people into real encounters with Jesus. Street healing ministry thrives in the midst of crowds and excitement.
Street Healing Ministry: Miracles During the Whiteout
This is the 2nd Anniversary of the Thursday night street ministry for several prayer team members and myself. We started on May 5th, 2016, and I remember that night so well.
I saw amazing healing miracles for the first time in my life, and I saw the Holy Spirit move in ways I never dreamed possible.
If you would like a taste of that night, and what got several of us ‘hooked’ on street ministry, click the blue link below, and read the 1st Thursday night weekly e-mail report I wrote.
Report #1 – The Night the Shaman Became a Medicine Man for Jesus
Martin Luther King said, ‘Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.’
This Week’s Highlights:
*Strange pay it forward request – see below
*Muslim jolted as he experiences the power of the Holy Spirit – see Pastor Thomas – part 1
*Team member experiences her first healing miracle when she prays for person on the street – see Pastor Thomas – part 2
*Visit to hospital blesses cancer patient – see Pastor Lorraine
*Engaging Muslims results in coffee invite – see Iris
I counted 21 team members last night, although there could have been more I didn’t notice in the crowds.
One of the regulars, Don, gave me $10 and asked me to buy a chicken dinner for a homeless man, seated nearby, who was hungry.
He said others had bought him food in the past, and he wanted to pay it forward.
But he said if he bought it himself the vendor would give him undesirable pieces of chicken, because that’s the way they treat the regulars.
He said if I bought it the vendor would give me a better plate of chicken pieces.
So I took his money, and bought a great plate of chicken for the homeless man, and told him that Don, who was at a nearby table bought it for him.
I never had a request that like that one before. I was encouraged by Don’s desire to pay it forward.
Jeremiah and I approached a regular, Elvis of the North, as he was limping badly.
I noticed he was wearing a talisman around his neck, and he was drunk (a talisman is what a shaman wears around his neck to let others know he is a shaman).
He told me his knee was none of my effing business, and I should eff-off. I have prayed for him, and I will approach him again.
We also prayed for a few others, but without any noticeable results.
Pastor Thomas’ Report:
Part 1 – afternoon
In the afternoon Kevin, Daniel and I took about 20 people for two hours of outreach as we had been sharing at the Fellowship of Christian Assemblies Conference (FCA) and we had given delegates the opportunity to experience ministering to people on the streets.
Altogether 20 people came out with us from all over North America. I took three young people with me, Seth from St. Anne, Riley from Niverville, and Caleb from Nebraska.
There were a lot of people mulling about, getting ready for the Jets party that evening.
We then walked over to the bus stop in front of Portage Place and prayed for a blind man from Columbia who had a friend who was helping him with his cane named Mohammed who was from Dubai.
Nothing seemed to happen initially but Mohammed appreciated the gesture of prayer. We invited him to receive prayer and he agreed to say that he had level 5 pain in his back and leg.
I asked Riley to pray for him and after he prayed the pain completely left and Mohammed was jolted backward as he was hit by the power of the Holy Spirit.
He asked what that was and we explained that it was the power of Jesus. He said he loved Jesu but was a Muslim and told Riley he would never forget him.
We shared the importance of inviting Jesus into his life before he had to leave.
I then approached two women who were also waiting for the bus and asked if they saw what had just happened to Mohammed. They said they hadn’t. The younger woman was the daughter of the other and was named Eve.
She looked to be around 25 years of age. She said she didn’t believe in God and was a sadist but then changed that to say she was just an atheist.
I asked her if she wanted to get healing from something. She said it would be nice to get rid of asthma she had since two years old.
I took her hand and told her to take a deep breath and I released the life of God into her. Then I asked if anything had changed. She said, “no, I feel the same”.
I said,” that’s okay sometimes healing isn’t instant”. Then she caught herself and said “Well, actually I do feel better.
Hey Mom, listen to my chest” Her mom put her head to her chest and listened for a moment, then they both started freaking out screaming “All the wheezing that I’ve had all my life is gone”.
I gave her my card and asked her to call me with a full report when she gets it checked out.
Part 2 – evening
This evening I was teamed up with Angela, Les, and Jerry.
With the Jets ‘whiteout’ party happening, with 1000’s of people on the downtown streets, and parking issues, we eventually met up with Kevin at the Radisson Hotel and all moved out together and split up into 2 teams as we ministered to a lot of Jets fans around the MTS Centre.
The first person we met with was Cole who was heading into the Jets game.
When asked if we could pray for him he said he was a recovering alcoholic and was 4 months clean and on step four of the 12 step which is opening your life to a higher power.
He said that was so weird that we approached him with Jesus when he was on that very step. He opened up his heart to accept Jesus.
We then prayed for Melanie, a girl doing Jets face painting. She was a believer who grew up in foster homes and asked for prayer and a Bible. We then headed over to Ellice Ave.
And met a man named Richard who had back and pain in his spine from scoliosis. He said it was level 5 pain so I counted down to 0 and commanded the pain to go.
He felt all the pain leave and his spine shift. He also wanted to invite Jesus into his life.
Meanwhile, Kevin prayed for blindness to leave a couple nearby and saw a large measure of healing and change in their eye site. We then asked a group of young men if anyone had pain.
Mac had damaged his shoulder in basketball practice and could not lift his shoulder until we prayed. The pain left and he got full mobility back. He was freaking out and in shock.
This opened the door to share the love of Jesus. Finally, we approached a group of young girls and asked who had the most pain and Jeanine said she had pain in her feet.
Angela prayed and the pain left completely. This was the first time Angela had prayed for someone and saw results. What a great evening with so many people around to approach.
Pastor Lorraine’s Report:
Thursday night Michelle and I went to the Health Sciences Center to pray for a member of our home church who has cancer. He was very tired and on medication, looking very jaundiced.
I had called him ahead of time to ask if we could bring a few people over to pray with him and he was encouraged by that.
As we prayed with him the Spirit of God rested on him and he felt the presence of Jesus.
Although we did not see any noticeable change we continued to pray, knowing that cancer is our enemy and Jesus has power over it in our bodies.
We cursed the cancerous cells and commanded life to come to his body and for his liver to be restored back to normal again.
Later, we had to park a few blocks away from Portage Place (due to the Jets game and crowds), and we met Al and Jeremiah outside the mall.
I went inside and said hello to a few members of our teams and then went to meet with Edna who was going to be baptized on May 20th so we could discuss the details of this important act of obedience and faith in her life.
Wow, what an honour to be walking with her at this time! Our team is excited about this upcoming event!
After Michelle and I spent some time with Edna, we spoke with a few others in the mall and spent a bit of time with Lani & Andy as they sat at one of the tables there.
The bonus was that I had a chance to speak with one of the men in the Food Court area who works there and follow up on how he was doing.
He’s a Muslim and although he doesn’t believe in everything I do, he was very receptive to my prayers for him and sharing about Jesus. Hoping to continue building this relationship with him in the next number of weeks.
Thank you Lord for Your great love for others around us!
Michelle and I had a very good evening even though we didn’t see a lot of healings this night. God is good!
Iris’ Report:
Gaylene, Erin, Andy and I were together for the first part of the eve. Gaylene ministered/chatted for a while with a guy for the Congo in Central Park. After that we meandered towards Portage Place, planning to join the Jet’s White Out.
A wave from the area of the slide drew us into other parts of Central Park. We walked over with a big smile and gave the three kisses on the cheek welcome.
Safana was there with her two boys, visiting with three other Muslim ladies, two of whom were also from Syria, and the other lady from Yemen.
They loved that I spoke Arabic and we chatted with them, watched the kids on the slides and listened to them making plans to have evening meals together at Ramadan, which is coming up next month.
Safana really wanted us to come to drink coffee at her place (a block or two away) so we made plans to do that next Thursday.
The rest of the evening was quiet ministry wise as we joined the 1000’s of Winnipegers who were cheering on their home team. We thought we would have more opportunity to minister, but it was noisy, fun, and people were focusing on the game.
Would it not be wonderful to see a crowd of that size gather to love and worship and cheer on Jesus!!?? GO JESUS GO!
Saturday Night Teaching
Every Saturday night we provide worship, teaching, testimonies, and individual healing prayer.
Come and join us as we usher in the powerful presence of God.
When the Spirit of God moves upon His people (His Church), encounters such as at Pentecost in Acts 2 take place—gifts begin to flow and demonstrations of His power and presence are released.
While we love and embrace all the manifestations, the essence of revival is when Holy Spirit touches the human spirit to awaken us back to our first love.
Revival is when the fire of His love consumes us and we love Him back with that same love. Revival is relational…it is personal! – Tony Kim – The Elijah List
Street Healing Ministry Goes Where the People Are
Street healing ministry is most effective when it goes where the crowds are. Events like the Whiteout create openness that street healing ministry can harness for the kingdom. As Luke 14:23 says, “Go out to the roads and make them come in.” Street healing ministry does exactly that. More at JesusHeals.ca.
Street healing ministry at events like the Whiteout proves that people are ready to receive when the church is ready to give. Street healing ministry does not wait for the perfect setting — it seizes every opportunity to share the love of God. Whether at a hockey game or a park bench, street healing ministry meets people where they are and introduces them to a God who heals.
