Over the years, we have seen many legs, knees, backs, arms, and shoulders get completely healed. We have seen mobility restored and pain vanish. But recently, I had a breakthrough that thrilled me more than all the rest because it involved passing this Kingdom reality down to the next generation. It showed me just how easily a child can step into their God-given authority and learn how to command healing.
During the winter months, we travel with most of our children and grandkids from Canada down to Arizona and Mexico. It is a beautiful season of family connection. On this particular night during our travels, Roman’s parents had gone on a much-needed one-night couples getaway, leaving Grandma and Grandpa in charge.
My 8-year-old grandson, Roman, had been suffering from hitting his left knee and calf earlier that day. By the time evening rolled around, the pain level had spiked to a 6 out of 10. The tears were flowing, and he looked at me and asked for “prayer from Papa.”
The outcome caught him off guard, but to understand why it worked, you have to understand the soil this seed was planted in.
The Foundation of Unconditional Love
Roman has been brought up in a household and continuously taught a vital truth: God is only love. He knows deep in his bones that there is no circumstance, situation, or action that can ever separate him from God’s love and approval.
Just as importantly, he knows he can never be separated from his parents’ or grandparents’ approval either. When a child is raised in an environment utterly devoid of performance-based love, the fear of “not doing it right” or “God being mad” vanishes. Perfect love casts out fear. It creates the perfect environment to learn how to command healing, because there is no religious baggage to unlearn.
The Shift: From Begging to Commanding
Because Roman rests in that love, I looked at him and told him, “I’m not going to pray for you. I am going to heal you.”
This wasn’t arrogance; it was an acknowledgment of identity. Most of the church has been taught to approach sickness by begging God from a distance, hoping He will intervene in the physical realm. But as I wrote about in Heart Realm Healing, we don’t operate from a playbook of fear and separation. We operate from the reality of Christ within us.
Jesus didn’t tell His disciples to pray for the sick; He told them to heal the sick (Matthew 10:8). Understanding how to command healing means realizing you already possess the authority and the substance of Agape love necessary to overwrite physical pain.
The Miracle: 6 to 0 in Minutes
I laid my hands on Roman’s knee and commanded the pain to leave. I didn’t strive or panic. I just released the reality of the Kingdom into his body.
I asked him where the pain was at. He said it went down to a 3.
We did it again. It dropped to a 1.
One more time, and it hit 0.
I had him walk around the room and test it. He walked without a limp and confirmed with a huge smile that the pain was 100% gone. But I didn’t want to stop there. I wanted to empower him.
I told him, “Roman, if that pain ever tries to come back, you can do the exact same thing I just did. Put your own hand on the area of pain and command it to go.”
I could tell the wheels were spinning in his head. He was trying to process what had just happened. He was realizing that the power wasn’t just in “Papa”—it was available to him, too.
Planting Seeds: Roman Learns How to Command Healing
That seed sprouted faster than I expected.
In the middle of the night, Roman woke up, and the growing pains had returned. But instead of crying out in fear or running to wake someone up to pray for him, he remembered what I told him. He immediately laid his own hands on his leg and commanded the pain to go.
He was immediately pain-free.
It has been several days now, and that pain is completely gone and has not returned. At 8 years old, Roman has learned a foundational truth: As He is, so are we in this world.
3 Steps to Teach Your Kids How to Command Healing
If you have children or grandchildren, don’t just heal them—teach them. Here is how you can pass this on:
- Establish the Love Foundation: Before you teach power, teach identity. Ensure they know God is only love and they cannot lose His approval. Power flows effortlessly when fear is absent.
- Change the Vocabulary: Stop saying, “Let’s ask God to take the pain away.” Say, “Let’s use the authority Jesus gave us to tell this pain to leave.” Demonstrate the process by laying hands and watching the pain shrink to a zero.
- Pass the Baton: Tell them explicitly that the exact same Spirit lives inside of them. When symptoms try to return, encourage them to lay their own hands on their body and command the victory.
We are raising a generation that doesn’t have to unlearn religious striving. They can grow up knowing exactly who they are in Christ.
