#50 – Busy Night – Mixed Results

Here’s a great quote I heard today: “Treat everyone like they were worth dying for.” – Andy Hayner
This Thursday there were 23 of us ministering on the streets.  Gerald and I were kind of like ‘free agents’ who connected with different teams.  Two encounters stand-out.  I approached a man in a wheelchair and asked if he had anything we could pray for.  Paul told us that he would like to walk again.  We prayed for his legs but didn’t notice any change.  I noticed he kept his right hand in his hoodie pocket, and he told us it was numb and paralyzed.  He also mentioned that his left hand didn’t work very well either.  As we prayed he said he felt sensations in his left hand, and the mobility in it improved.  We were encouraged and continued to pray, but he suddenly decided that he didn’t want anymore prayer – he thanked us and wheeled away.  We felt we weren’t finished with him yet, and so we prayed that we would be able to connect with him again in the future.
As that encounter ended Justin, who had recently received healing, and a major change in his lifestyle, brought his girlfriend Crystal to the mall to meet with us.  Crystal, a Christian, who works as a security guard at a hospital had heard about our ministry and she wanted to join us.  Iris asked her if she had any prayer needs.  She said she has ‘shingles’ and very poor eyesight.  We prayed for the ‘shingles’ and hope to get a report back of her healing.  We then prayed for her eyes.  We tested them by having her read numbers on a sign in the distance.  After prayer, she could see the numbers just a little clearer.  We also felt we weren’t finished praying for her, and she agreed to meet us next week.
I was disappointed that I didn’t see total healing in both encounters, but I am celebrating the healing we did experience, and am thankful for the opportunity to pray for Paul, and Crystal.
Iris’ Report:
As soon as Alicia and I walked into Portage Place we saw Gaylene standing next to Jocelyn, a lady we prayed for and ministered to a few weeks ago.  She had a swollen arm that was giving her a lot of pain. I waved Al over and we spent time praying for her arm and for her addiction. When asked about what caused the pain in her arm, she said drugs. It got slightly better but not much. She was very worried about her court case coming up in the morning with CFS regarding her children, and we prayed for her about that as well. She is looking better than she did a few weeks ago, Gaylene prayed with her son Paul, and I
know God keeps bringing her across our path for a purpose.
We prayed for a man called Paul Walker who had a stroke and could not move the right side of his body. He was a quiet man who was very willing to have us pray, and at one point said that he could feel tingling in his left hand, but we could see no visible improvement. He left and as a group, we felt we were not finished praying yet, so we took time there to
pray for God’s continued healing and a future encounter with Paul.
As we prayed in the circle, a woman joined up and said hi. Her name was Crystal and she had come to be a part of the outreach and check it out.  I asked her if we could pray for her and it turned out that she had shingles that was potentially serious and could eventually lead to blindness. Al put his hand on her eyes and commanded blindness to go.  Her sight did improve a bit. As we were praying I felt a strong sense to pray for all that has come against her, and to cut off the enemy’s attacks in her life. She confirmed that after I was done praying, with stories of nightmares in her apartment, of demonic encounters and
of her battle to make her home a safe place.  She had grown up in an atheistic home and had recently come to faith, and was encountering a lot of pressure from her family and work to give up her new faith. She was a delight to chat with and I hope she comes out again. She encouraged us as much as we encouraged her.
Lorraine’s Report:

Tonight I was out with Ed, Andy, Sancho, and Geraldine.  The 5 of us ministered on Main Street for about the first hour, and then we drove over to Portage Place and walked to  Central Park.

Initially, we gave out croissants to people on the street, at the park and at the mall, but we also went to the pizza place that Kevin usually goes to and bought a large pizza and walked down the block to give away pizza to people and offer to pray for them.

Shortly after this encounter, I met a young man named Brandon who looked like he was having withdrawals.  I asked if I could pray for him and initially he quietly told me he didn’t need me to pray for him—he was okay.  Obviously, he was not okay, but he would not offer to tell me what he needed.  At one point I sensed the Lord saying for me to give him some loose change – so I did.  He was immediately surprised and softened, letting me pray a blessing over him.

At one point Geraldine and Sancho prayed for a woman called Lori who had much pain in her knee, and she could not bend it.  The knee area was obviously swollen and walking was very difficult for her.  They offered to pray and her pain immediately came down and they prayed some more and Lori was able to walk almost with no noticeable limp anymore and she was able to bend her knee again.

As our group stood on the street outside the hotel, a young woman with the name Jolene approached me like she knew me and decided to share her story with me about being reunited with her 10-year-old daughter.  I released some words of knowledge to her and spoke into her life and she was amazed.  We tried to share Jesus with her, but she was quite resistant to responding.

The highlight for my evening was when God healed a man’s blind eye.  We discovered that Eric, who lived on the street and was from a large family, many of whom were believers.  We gave Eric some pizza and asked how we could pray for him.  He indicated that he had some bad back pain.  As we prayed his pain level came down, but not completely.  While we were engaging with Eric I noticed that his left eye was not healthy.  So I asked him if he could see out of that eye and we tested it.  He could see a little, but not clearly.  As it turned out his eyesight in the other eye was also, not very good.  Andy & I offered to pray for Eric’s eyes and after a few short prayers, He could see clearly out of his right eye!  God then also restored his eyesight in his other eye as well.  When we tested both eyes he could see clearly!  PTL!  Eric was a bit surprised, but not overly excited by this amazing miracle.  He was grateful though.

Pastor Thomas’ Report:

Tonight I was with two new people, Harrison and Rainer and we went to Portage Place.  We encountered altogether about 14 people and had many great conversations and ran into a lot of Christians, as well we were able to give out a lot of Croissants to hungry people. We got split up from Rainer who spent the evening talking with the man referred to as “No Name”.  The very first person we met was Cindy who was a friend of Harrison’s and she sold us a bus ticket as she needed money.  When we got into Portage Place the next person we met was Frieda, also a friend of Harrison’s who needed a bus ticket to go to the hospital to see her very sick sister.  It was amazing how God orchestrates things when we go out on Thursday nights.

We had prayed for words of knowledge before going out and Harrison had a word of knowledge for someone with problems in their feet.  We encountered a woman named Denise with her three kids and she had just had surgery on her feet.  Harrison prayed for her and she received a great measure of healing.

I had received a word of knowledge for someone with shoulder pain and the next person we prayed for named Jean had shoulder pain and was touched by the Holy Spirit.

Another highlight was when we prayed for Carol from Sandy Bay, ON.  She had just had brain surgery, had metal plates in her skull, was experiencing head pain, and had difficulty walking. After prayer, she was noticeably different and could walk much better.

Overall it was a great evening to bless and encourage people.

Jeremiah’s Report:

This week my team consisted of Angela and Lynn. Shortly after arriving at the mall, Lynn assisted another team as they prayed for someone, so Angela and I carried on.  This was Angela’s first time out on the streets and our first encounter was a man by the name of Roy. Angela and I told Roy that we were on a treasure hunt and on this hunt we had to find a deaf ear. Roy said he was very healthy but knew someone who had a deaf ear.  We said we would pray for his friend and as Roy was leaving I mentioned: “next time you see your friend maybe he will be able to hear.”

Angela and I walked in the food court trying to figure out who God was nudging us to talk to. What surprised me is how subtle this prompting is, but as soon as I saw “this” man, I knew we needed to talk to him. We asked if he had a deaf ear, he didn’t, he also said he had no pain but that he was struggling with depression and anxiety. After we prayed he also asked us if we could pray for his anger.  We stayed and talked with Alex for quite a long time. We told him how special he was and how God had a plan for his life.  Lynn later joined the conversation and mentioned that she heard God telling her that the person we were talking to was struggling with depression and anger.  Alex even replied, “you heard?”  He was unsure how this was possible but was intrigued as Lynn was not there earlier when he told us these things.  Lynn also mentioned seeing a vision of a line of people behind Alex representing the people that only he could reach.  We continued to talk to him about his destiny and filled him with knowledge of God’s goodness and love.

The rest of the evening was in Central Park with Gaylene discussing how our evening went and what we encountered. The last person we spoke to was a man by the name of Louie.  A relative of his by the name of George died earlier that morning from cancer. Louie was drunk and very emotional about the whole situation. We prayed for him and what stood out to me was how he removed his hat out of respect when we prayed.

Short video of a person being healed:
Dove Money, from Barrie, ON, who had joined us on the streets in the month of February, sent me this video of a girl, in an Ottawa mall, being healed, by a team.  What is shown is not unlike the healing encounters we have in Winnipeg, and the short prayers of authority are exactly the style of prayer we pray in Winnipeg.

Sanctuary House of Prayer’s outreach during Ramadan 2017
For 11 years, Sanctuary House of Prayer (SHOP) has been interceding for Winnipeg including immigrants, refugees, international students, and the inner city. As part of its 10 year anniversary in May 2016, we started ‘SHOP in the City’ in Central Park with a team of intercessors, worship leaders and youngsters who prayed for dozens of people and handed out water. As well, Zion Church’s Thursday night evangelism outreach regularly goes to Central Park in the spring, summer, and fall.
This year SHOP will be in Central Park, providing food, and prayers, during the Muslim’s month of Ramadan.  Zion ministry teams are encouraged to partner with SHOP in Central Park during this month.  There is a mosque across the street from the park, and many Muslims frequent the park.
