Eighteen people showed-up to minister this Thursday. The weather was beautiful, and Portage Place Mall was almost empty. Michelle, Harrison, and I prayed for Ella who was sitting near the back entrance of the mall. She had crutches, said she had MS, and 8/10 pain in her legs. After we prayed for her the pain dropped from 8 to 5, then 3, and down to 0. We asked her to test her legs by trying to walk, but she said she was too afraid to try. She was very quiet spoken and shy, but we found out she was a Christian, and we encouraged her about Jesus’ love for her. After that we went to Central Park to join the Sanctuary House of Prayer group that was giving away water, and offering to pray for people. The Park had a lot of people, mostly women and children as the men were in the mosque across the street praying as this is the month of Ramadan. I had a very long encounter with one Muslim man, but he didn’t give me any opportunity to say anything. He kept telling me that Muslims also believed in Jesus, and that we were a lot alike. He totally controlled the conversation. After that I spent a long time talking and praying with a (sober) First Nations man who was very distraught as he was being evicted and was about to be homeless.
Kevin’s Report:
Ken, Diana and myself were teamed together and we had a wonderful evening. It started off with Ken and myself parking a bit far from our meeting spot with Diana. As we got out of the car 3 people were passing by so I called out to them if they wanted to see some street magic with the disappearing napkin. The one young lady said she had very bad vision in both eyes. I had her test each of her eyes. She said her eyes had been bad for a very long time, measured in decades. After the slight of hand trick I had her test her eyes again and one eye was now 100% perfect. The other one unchanged. She let me put my hand on her blurry eye and when I removed it, that eye too was made completely perfect. She said her eyes where absolutely both crystal clear. I asked them how this was possible? They were completely dumbfounded. I explained to them about the love of God and the two girls identified themselves as believers but the young man, who acted and dressed gay said he was an atheist. I explained how religion wants us to conform to be acceptable to God, but that the Gospel was that they were already loved and accepted.
I asked the young man if he needed any healing to prove God’s love for him. He started telling me about a Kidney pain but thought about it for a bit and decided he was good. The two girls were excited to tell me that they both had bad backs. I had Ken lay hands on the back of one girl after testing it and she was instantly healed. We had the other girl test her back, and she could hardly bend. After a second prayer she bent straight over and put both hands flat on the pavement.
The girls asked if this same healing power works on babies. I said of course and that lead me to meet with them a few hours later with Jackie (my wife who I picked up after the teams were dismissed) and myself driving to a hotel where the girls were staying, and praying for a little 7 months baby who was completely covered in a very red rash. I asked them to take a picture so that in the morning when they woke her up they could compare.
Diana met a young lady who very recently had her lower leg below the knee amputated. She had 9/10 pain in that leg and could not even touch any part of her leg because of the extreme pain. Diana spent a lot of time just speaking words of peace and love as she prayed several times for her leg. After a few minutes, the leg had 0/10 pain and it was completely normal. The lady had also just had eye surgery on both eyes and was wearing protective glasses to shield her from light. She said her eyes had 20% blurriness. After prayer, she said they were 100% perfect. There was much love shared with this young lady and we hope to see her again.
We had a number of encounters, and these are just two of the highlights.
Pictured below is Diana, and Kevin praying with the lady who had an amputated leg.
Iris’s Report:
I spent the evening in Central Park, ministering with my friend Suzanne. I hadn’t been in Central Park since the previous summer. I spotted Jasmine leaving the children’s play area, and I ran after her to say hi. She was friendly but in a hurry to get home to cook the meal for Ramadan. I stopped to chat with another lady but she was also in a bit of hurry to get home. With Muslims fasting from sunrise to sundown, they have a big meal to break the fast at about 9:30pm.
We sat down on a bench and started a conversation with an Eritrean lady called Siya. She was a believer and had a joy of the Lord in her eyes, and we conversed and prayed for her. It was a quiet evening with a lot of children playing on grass in the park, and as we meandered on, we saw a Muslim lady reading a Koran by the side of the field as her children were playing and went and sat beside her.
We had a long, friendly and yet intense conversation. It’s Ramadan, so religious conversations are often more intense during this time of year where special attention is given to their standing with God, to prayer and to fasting. This lady was lovely, had five children, and loved God. She also had the gift of a teacher in the way she explained and sought for truth. We talked about Jesus and his miracles. During this time Suzanne was playing with her children and they loved her. As we left they gave her huge bear hugs, and I hope to see this lady again and continue our relationship.
We had another opportunity to sit on the steps of the Teen Challenge building and pray for a lady who had recently lost her job. All in all, a bit of a quieter evening but really good to connect with the community atmosphere in Central Park.
Jeremiah’s Report:
My team this week was Ethan and I. We spent the whole evening in Central Park with Lani. We were also handing out water bottles. As we were walking around the park we met a guy by the name of Garry, we asked him if he had any physical pain that he would like to go. He said he believed in miracles but he didn’t think a miracle could happen to him. We prayed for cartilage to grow back in his knee and I think he also said something about his tendons. he said he didn’t feel anything, we told him that we see miracles all the time and that we believe a miracle could happen to him. We left him with the knowledge that we planted a seed and that he could water it by expecting results and believing a miracle can happen to him. Lani was telling us about how every time we walk around the park something changes in the atmosphere. After we walked around the park, Lani left us. For the rest of the entire evening, Ethan and I were talking to ‘No Name’ about (sure enough) names, and belief.

Sanctuary House of Prayer’s outreach during Ramadan 2017
For 11 years, Sanctuary House of Prayer (SHOP) has been interceding for Winnipeg including immigrants, refugees, international students and the inner city. As part of its 10 year anniversary in May 2016, we started ‘SHOP in the City’ in Central Park with a team of intercessors, worship leaders and youngsters who prayed for dozens of people and handed out water. As well, Zion Church’s Thursday night evangelism outreach regularly goes to Central Park in the spring, summer and fall.
This year SHOP will be in Central Park, providing food, and prayers, during the Muslim’s month of Ramadan. Zion ministry teams are encouraged to partner with SHOP in Central Park during this month. There is a mosque across the street from the park, and many Muslims frequent the park.
