“Ambition has been defined as the ‘desire to succeed’. There are ultimately only two controlling ambitions to which all others may be reduced: one is our own glory, and the other is God’s glory.”
Nicky Gumble
Twenty-one people came to the streets to minister this Thursday night. Kevin bought several pumpkin pies, a pail of ice cream, and several containers of whip cream to hand out pieces of pie in celebration of Thanksgiving. We also had several cases of bottled water. Kevin took a team to the Osborne Bridge as it was reported there homeless persons there, but they didn’t locate anyone, so they parked close to Portage Place and handed out the treat in the parking lot (we don’t bring food to give away in the mall as it upsets the food vendors who are trying to sell their food). We prayed for several people who came for the pie.
We missed having Lorraine with us this week. She brings a lot of energy and prays with such conviction that she inspires the rest of us. She had a mild heart attack on Wednesday and is recovering in hospital. I am sure you all will join in prayer for Lorraine’s renewed strength and a speedy return to full health. Our God Reigns!
All other teams started on Main Street. We would offer passerby’s a bottle of water and ask them if they needed prayer. Many people asked for prayer. Andy said that 7 people that he prayed for were healed. Almost everyone I prayed for wanted prayer to be free from addictions. Some people just break down crying when we offer to pray for them, others just hug us. Other prayer partners also said they had prayed for people with addictions. I think you could say it was the theme of the night. I am always amazed at how open street people are – they freely admit their need.
After an hour we moved to Portage Place, and that’s where one of my highlights took place. As I was walking into the mall I recognized Al, a First Nations man I had prayed for last year on June 24th. I addressed him by name and asked him where his cane was. He was surprised I remembered his name. He said, “I haven’t needed that cane since you prayed for me last year.” I was encouraged to meet him again, and to learn his healing “stuck”. The other highlight was my 15-year-old grandson was back on the streets with me.
Audrey’s Report:
AJ is a young homeless girl with a 4 yr old daughter (not with her) with plans to finish her high school through adult ed. She also struggles with addictions.
After the Lord got AJ’s attention by totally taking away the pain in her foot – a light went on in her eyes & she got excited. We talked & she prayed, & in her own words rededicated her life to Christ. Diana & I prayed to break the spirit of addiction over her & taught her to reinforce it by using her own authority in Christ. I also gave her a new testament -& I know she will read it!
Jeremiah’s Report:
Denzel, Hudson and I initially started at Main Street and later on, we went to portage place.
Dale taught me how to use his video camera and I interviewed someone who’s name was Robb. Last week I prayed for his hernia to leave however it didn’t go immediately but when he woke up the next morning, it was gone. Robb claimed that about a year ago someone prayed for his hernia and it was healed but it came back out a day later. this time he was expecting it to go back out, unfortunately, it did five days later but he almost didn’t even care. we prayed again last night. His words on what happened last week were “that was the nicest thing anybody has ever done for me”. Isn’t our God a great God!!!
We spoke to Zee, who used to be a Christian but he isn’t anymore because he felt God never answered his prayers. I told him that God answers prayer and that we see it all the time, Dale got a word for him that he is a strong support for his sister because she is going through a hard time right now. He said thank you and walked away.
There wasn’t a lot of action at portage place other than Kevin giving out loads of pie, tons of ice cream (more like a gallon of ice cream) and whipping cream. MMmmm! and I think Michelle bought forty burgers from Mcdonalds too!!
Thanksgiving dessert on the streets, except for the burgers, no one eats burgers on Thanksgiving.😀
