#78 – Lonely Lady Seeks Her Alcoholic Husband

Love for the poor is not an optional extra. It is at the heart of the New Testament. It is evidence of living faith.  If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbour as yourself,” you are doing right. Your love is shown especially in what you do for the poor, the hungry, and the needy. Kind mercy wins over harsh judgment every time. – Nicky Gumble

Thirty-six folks showed-up to minister last night.  Some went to Main Street, Siloam Mission, and most went to Portage Place.   Again we had a lot of toques, gloves, mitts, scarfs, socks, and even some toys to give away.  At the end of the evening, a homeless lady asked for a pair of gloves, and none of the team members had any left, so I gave her mine.  She was very thankful.
My highlight was praying with a lady who was looking for her alcoholic husband.  She first approached us asking for mitts for her baby and 5 year old which we provided her with.  She told me her alcoholic husband had been gone for a while, and although she didn’t usually come to Portage Place she came hoping to find him and see if she could help him and get him to come home because she and the kids were missing him.  She had the name ‘Lorna’ tattooed just below her neck, kind of like a necklace.  I asked her if that was her name.  She said her name was Lisa.  Lorna was her daughter’s name and she was murdered last year.  I was shocked, I couldn’t imagine what it would be like to have a child murdered.  What a tragedy.  A few of us prayed for her, her children, and her husband.  I have to admit I was so overcome by her story I don’t even know what I prayed.
Kenisha’s Report:
On Main Street, we prayed for a lady whose name I think started with a D (she said she been prayed for by the Kingdom H20 group in the past and was fed pizza). God gave us a word that she has a grandson and she confirmed that she did and that she had other grandchildren, we then blessed her with a teddy bear and toy car and she was filled with gratitude and thankfully shared that she had wanted to give her grandchildren something but she did have anything to give them.  We asked D if she had any prayer requests and she shared that she and her son were homeless because her house had burned down (she indicated that she and her son were now living with her daughter and her grandchildren). Thus, we prayed for D that God would provide Her with a home (and other topics as directed by the Holy Spirit).  After praying for D, she went and got her cousin and we prayed for her cousin also and provided her cousin with a winter hat.
At Portage Place, Davy and I prayed for a man named Greg (who God had highlighted to me as he was sitting down), Greg then wandered to us and greeted us.  We asked Greg if he had any prayer requests and he began to share with us all the things that he was thankful for (Greg appeared high but thankful). We asked Greg if he had addictions (as lead by the Holy Spirit) and Greg shared that he “had a narcotics problem” and his back was sore. Therefore,  we prayed for deliverance from his addiction and for his back to be healed (and other topics as directed by the Holy Spirit). We asked  Greg how his back was and he said it was fine and asked us to walk with him. As we walked with Greg, the Holy Spirit lead me to tell him that God wanted to heal his inner pain too (the root of the addiction) and he was free to let go and give it to God and just as we were walking with him, God was walking with Him too (and He was not alone),  Greg then wandered away.
Erdman’s Report:

Adina and I met 3 people, 2 men, and a woman, they were hungry so we bought them pizza and we gave them some socks.  The woman’s name is Ida she needed prayer.  We met 2 other ladies and a little girl who we gave a scarf and she was so happy.

Then we met Liena with her 2 kids she had arthritis in her back we prayed for her when we asked how she felt she said the pain is leaving and she got so hot she was sweating.   We gave them some socks and mittens.  We also prayed for her Mom because the doctors want to put her on dialysis. We had a busy Evening.

Mel’s Report:

Our team consisted of Kevin from Winkler and a young teenager named Kiley. The first person we ministered to was Linda. She said she was a Christian but she was distressed and fearful about many things. She said she needed protection. We prayed for clarity and peace over her mind. Also told her that she had authority over the spiritual forces that she was concerned about. Spent over half an hour with her. She was very thankful that we had ministered to her. The next guy we prayed for was the Filipino maintenance guy who works in the food court. Kevin who has a very dramatic testimony of being healed of severe arthritis prayed for his foot to be healed of something like gout. He experienced some relief from the pain and was very grateful that we had prayed for him. Kiley was experiencing heat in her right foot for much of the night. We ended the evening by praying for Al. We prayed for healing from arthritis.  He felt the heavy presence of God and some relief.

Lorraine’s Report:

There were 6 of us on our team (Michelle, Audrey, Andy, Ed, Ryan and myself).  First stop:  Siloam Mission.  Found there were many people there, some in obvious need of prayer and others not so obvious, but strangely, although we engaged with many people as we walked around, many did not want us to pray for them!  We even encountered people walking with crutches and they refused our prayers.

In any case, we were not discouraged but continued to spend time outside the main building and the dining hall asking to pray for people.  We would also give them any scarves, mitts/gloves, toques, socks etc since it has been quite cold outside.  We managed to give away a fair bit.  One of the first people we met was Alexander.  He had a headache and generally wasn’t feeling well.  After we prayed he told us that he felt better.  Prayed for an aboriginal man named Stephen who told us that he was walking across Canada to raise awareness of the fentanyl problem in our country.  He had stomach issues and back pain at the base of his spine.  We prayed and most of his pain left.  And then as we prayed again we got a word of knowledge from the Lord about fear and anxiety so we addressed it in our prayers.  Suddenly, he said that all his fear/anxiety that he was just feeling left!  Pretty awesome!

Prayed for a lady named Stephanie who needed a job and we gave her some gloves.  Prayed for a man named Josh who was smoking a cigarette outside and struggling with anger.  He thanked us for praying.  Prayed for Les who needed the resolution to dispute with his previous landlord over his apartment.  He was looking for his deposit and money back that he was owed.  He wanted justice because he believed he was wronged by his landlord.  So we asked God to answer his request to bring closure to this legal dispute.  Shared a bit with him about Jesus’ love, and God as a good Father.

Noticed a lady in a wheelchair, pushing herself around.  She had a boot cast on her left foot/ankle area.  We asked her about what happened and she said that the ankle was shattered due to an accident.  We asked if we could pray for her pain which was about a level 6.  We prayed and she said nothing happened.  So we asked to pray again and suddenly she wheeled herself away.  It looked like something happened because she suddenly became fearful and began to wheel herself away as fast as she could make her chair move.  Not sure what that was about.

We also met a man named Ryan that we have met at Portage Place before.  Ryan would often hear voices in his head and had been prescribed medication for this.  But he had decided that he didn’t want to take the medication as it bothered him.  Tonight, as we bumped into him, he recognized some of us and shared with us that he hardly ever hears any more voices.  The voices seemed to have stopped!  Wow!  As we went outside we saw Rob, another regular familiar to us, walking towards us with his newspapers and he greeted us warmly!  We can see a shift inside his heart and as he said hello to all of us individually, he warmly hugged us and of course, handed each of us a newspaper!   There have been changes in his heart over the past number of months that we have been encountering Rob.  He’s much softer and kinder, with a very tender heart that seems to be more and more obvious!  Wow!  Jesus is at work in him.

Later, we went to Portage Place where met other people and prayed for them or bought them various items that they needed.  One of us even bought Joseph some laundry detergent that he needed!  Some of our group prayed with a woman (Grandmother) called Marline who had a serious inner ear affliction.  God healed her on the spot right in the mall!  And our group prayed for her granddaughter Aliyah who was with her.
